This week has been all about the brunch. One in the city (Crouch End) and one by the sea (Lyme Regis).
My city haunt is, by happy coincidence, on the same street my parents-in-law have lived for 30 years. The Haberdashery.
The coffee is great (rocket fuel stuff) and apart from having to buggy-barge every other mother on maternity leave out of the way for a table, it’s pretty darn perfect. Ooh and I love the muffins in the mini terracotta flowerpots, the flakey pastries, the eggs… oh and the staff are super friendly (especially the French dude)… okay, I’ll stop now. Just go, it’s fab.
We spent a lazy weekend in Devon with my best friend (BF) and her curly-haired lover, making a Sunday hop over the border to Lyme Regis for some antique and fossil hunting.
We’ve been meaning to grab something to eat at The Town Mill Bakery for a while and luck was on our side, we finally managed to squeeze in on one of the communal tables for a late breakfast.
The laid-back, sharing philosophy makes it feel like relaxed visit to a foodie friend’s house. The day’s bounty is laid out on a long kitchen table and, renowned for their carb offerings, we tucked in to a selection of warm breads smothered with homemade jams and peanut butter with the weekend papers (and a sleeping baby). Bliss.
Finally: If you’re in Lyme don’t miss the pottery studio two minutes from the bakery at the Town Mill. Located in the old stables, Don Hudson and Berey Pealing make some seriously beautiful pieces, we can’t visit without picking up another mug for our groaning shelves.
