The high-street offerings for our little treasures range from a walking billboard (the worst I’ve seen: ‘Made in 60 seconds’), to a wardrobe more suited to either a Westside gangster rapper (flat caps and baggy jeans) or a Eastern European hooker (denim diamante clad mini skirts) – and that’s just for the newborns.
What’s wrong with babies looking like… well, babies?
Growing up in France (part-time) I have memories of little girls in proper dresses with chic ribbons in their even chicer bobbed hair and boys in effortless polo shirts and palettes of navy, red and white. Cute non? (these are all outfits from Bonpoint, the Chanel of the under 5’s).
Yes, at the higher price points our shores can offer the joys of Rachel Riley (*proper* party dresses), Papillon (*proper* shoes) and Caramel Baby and Child (*proper* blow the budget heirloom pieces) to name but a few.
