Here it is – I don’t know what came over me. We were all stood there looking at trees and I just said – ‘give me the big one’. We had to shave a bit off the bottom to get the angel on top, but I guess that’s what Christmas is all about, huh?
As we are hosting Christmas this year, I figured we had the excuse to go big.
I love that we started our own little family tradition of buying Country Bebe a new decoration each year, the first when he was only 6 weeks old. Now he’s 2 we let him choose his own and this year he homed in on this glittery, teasel bear:
We write the year on each of his decorations so that when he leaves home (oh the horror), he will take with him the start of his own collection of decorations for his family.
We have inherited some stunning vintage Italian decorations from the OH’s Nonna:
Besides decking the halls, I have been batch cooking mince pies. I made the mincemeat back in November and I am chuffed to bits with the results, you really can tell the difference in the slightly chunkier texture and flavours. 85 baked and counting!
I’ve also written a 150-high mountain of Christmas cards. Every year I moan but I do secretly love getting out my fountain pen and sending a little festive note to friends, family, old friends, family friends, parents’ friends… it may be the only exchange we make each year but I love it when the house is filled with updates and words of love from around the globe.
Next weekend is all about shopping for gifts (I think I’m about halfway there!) and decorating the Christmas cake! I will update you with pictures – let’s just say there is glitter and LOTS of it.
I’d love to see your trees and decorations. Especially if you decorate the outside of your house. Country Bebe goes nuts for all the sparkle and lights. I love seeing his nose pressed to the car window as we drive about.
