I have been quietly and rather over-indulgently, building up my summer wardrobe and thought, rather than stock-piling with the vague plan to do some style posts when I’m looking halfway presentable, I’d just take some quick snaps and talk you through some of my favourite purchases.
First up, my latest and greatest buy: the fluoro boucle jacket from ASOS.
I desperately needed something light-weight for the summer that would smarten up my work-uniform of Splendid t-shirts (yes they’re ruinously expensive, yes they are the best fit in the world and currently on sale at my-wardrobe.com), black skinny jeans and heeled sandals, various. This fits the bill perfectly. It’s got a slight stretch to it, so super comfy and doesn’t easily crease (perfect for my 3-hour round trip commute to Bristol). The fluoro trim is a nod to summer and peps up the grey. In short, I love it. (£35, asos.com).
Apologies for the stock shot of my new sandals but I awaiting delivery but I wanted you to see the whole outfit I had planned. So, the dress is a really simple, super lightweight drawstring sundress from H&M, at a bargainous £14.99. The monochrome keeps it smart enough for meetings, but equally it’s a comfy, easy day dress when off-duty, too. The necklace adds a touch of colour (£10 in the COS sale), and I love these Hasbeen-esque sandals – at £45 they are a fraction of the Swedish brand’s prices – for when you want comfort that is slightly more glamorous than flipflops.
I spotted this maxi-dress at 11pm, in the window of Oliver Bonas in Crouch End last weekend, and was there at 9am the next morning to snap it up. Rarely do I find a maxi with thick enough straps to conceal a proper bra which, as any ample-bosomed ladies will attest, is key with summer dresses. Unless visible bra straps are your thing (bleugh), or worse, clear ones (double bleugh). The coral, scrunch-dyed cheesecloth is pretty, without being ditsy, and it comes fully lined to save you any blushes (£35, oliverbonas.com).
H&M are having something of a ‘print trouser’ moment. These are my absolute favourites. The print is so beautiful:
They are so easy to wear; I’ve been teaming them with my beloved Whistles silk black tee and simple black thong sandals for an easy, summer in the city look. (£19.99, H&M.com)
My other favourite H&M trousers at the mo are these:
Snapped on my commute last week to work, worn with a mens white shirt. Love them.
Okay, enough rabid consumerism for now, altho this classic swimsuit from Toast could possibly be winging it’s way to my beachbag very soon…
Those h&m’s have a touch of the Moorish mosaic about them. Takes me back…
Sigh. They certainly do. Funnily enough I thought of you when I bought them… I thought: "I know a leggy Hungo who could rock these"
