Yes, it’s that time of year again.
New Year’s Resolutions.
This year I’m keeping it simple. And positive. Rather than trying to give something up, or feel guilty about something I ‘shouldn’t be doing’, I’ve decided to set myself a New Year’s Goal instead.
To learn Italian.
The OH and I will have been together 7 years on January 1st (yep, first snog was at midnight; classy) and what with him being Italian and all, I thought it would be useful.
The Mansi brood is from Ravello on the Amalfi Coast, so we spend a fair chunk of time between there and Naples. Namely to see family (his brother and Aunt are based there full-time) and well, simply because it’s our Favourite Place on Earth. While my basic ‘phrase-book’ Italian gets me by in restaurants and at airports, it doesn’t really cut the mostarda around a dining table of noisy Neapolitans.
Another spur to make this year the year I learn fluent Italian is that we desperately want Country Bebe to be bi-lingual. He is starting a great collection of Italian baby books (colours, numbers, animals etc) and I want to be able to read them with him.
So, I’m starting evening classes at home with a tutor next month – wish me luck! Or should that be buona fortuna? 🙂
I’d love to hear your goals and challenges for 2013! Are you taking up a new hobby? Planning to conquer a skill you’ve always wanted to master? Let me know in the comments below!
Happy New Year xxx
