When I came across Batoko on Insta earlier this summer – they ticked A LOT of small brand love boxes for me.
I’m not going to embark on a ‘beach body ready’ rant (although believe me – after this year I am just super grateful I have a body to take to the beach. Enough said) – but my swimwear requirements have switched up A LOT since motherhood; from ‘topless and sun-lounger bound in the Mediterranean’ circa 2002, to ‘whatever I can wear that will hold my body parts in place whilst I run, swim, paddleboard and eat ice-cream’. Although ‘function’ is now high on my list when swimwear shopping, I also want something COOL with zero ‘mumsy’ factor and Batoko’s bold graphics are spot on. They’re also made from 100% recycled plastic (they’ve used the equivalent weight of 146,000 plastic bottles to make their swimwear since launching!).
I snapped up their leopard print swimsuit (main pic) in their summer sale. Being 100% plastic, I was worried that the fabric would feel – well- plastic-y. Instead it just feels slightly thicker than usual swimsuit fabric, which helps hold everything in place #priorities.
Batoko call their designs the ‘no-wedgie cut’ and I’ve certainly put it through its paces this summer. On and off inflatables, playing beach cricket, hauling a 2yo in and out of rockpools… it literally does not budge or ride up where it shouldn’t. Ditto the thicker straps and slightly higher neckline mean it manages to keep The Girls underwraps, too. No mean feat.
Last month I couldn’t resist adding to my collection with the ‘Dinosass’ print (which is still in the sale if you’re quick). I’m not going to lie – when my two boys saw me in it, they thought I was a genuine rockstar. Cool parent points – TICK.
Next on the wishlist: these magnificent Cockatoos –
DETAILS: I bought both suits in the sale for £30 each.
